Electric cryogenic pump systems for space propulsion

TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION

An advanced electric pump (e-pump) solution has been developed for propulsion and energy systems using storable and cryogenic propellants. The e-pump subsystem integrates a pump assembly with an electric power train, comprising a motor, inverter, and battery pack. This design replaces conventional turbine-powered systems, eliminating the need for gas generators, turbines, and associated piping. Designed for propulsion systems within the 2.5–40 kN thrust range, the technology supports a variety of propellants including RP-1, HTP, ethanol, LOX, liquid methane, and liquid hydrogen. Discharge pressures can reach up to 100 bar, enabling applicability in demanding mission profiles.
